An adorable baby koala
The adorable little one from Genoa, soon to be 8 months old! In koalas, gestation lasts about thirty days. When born, the baby goes to its mother’s pouch where it completes its development. Our little koala is starting to come out of the pocket entirely…
The koala, an emblematic endangered species
Cute but threatened marsupials!
The koala is totally reliant on eucalyptus leaves for its diet. Sadly, the eucalyptus forests which are its natural habitat are threatened by droughts, fires, and deforestation. Beauval helps to protect koalas in partnership with San Diego Zoo.

Are koalas “functionally extinct”?
A “Vulnerable” species on the IUCN Red List
Last May, the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) NGO presented a report claiming that there were only 80,000 koalas left in the wild in Australia. This alarming figure implies that the species is functionally extinct.

Beauval Nature is engaged in koala protection
Today, although the koala is not an endangered species, its future is still uncertain due to threats related to the expansion of human activities such as agriculture, collisions with cars, and fires that ravage the eucalyptus forests.
San Diego Zoo, with the support of the Beauval Nature association, has developed a koala conservation and research programme. This programme aims to study koala behaviour in the wild as well as in zoos, their distribution in the natural environment, and the development of certain diseases.
