Un œil en coulisse
Meet the babies of the savannah
The “Un Œil en Coulisse” team introduces you to the African savannah’s new-borns at the ZooParc de Beauval. Meet the baby springboks, red river hogs, dik-diks, and of course little Kimia, the first giraffe born at Beauval.
Giraffe gestation: a high-risk birth
A 2-metre drop!
After a gestation period of 15 months, giraffes give birth upright, sometimes whilst walking, which results in a dizzying 2-metre fall for their calf! This particularly hazardous birth leads to the death of many calves.

Beauval Nature supports the monitoring of giraffes
The giraffe, one of the most charismatic species in Africa, suffered a drastic population decline at the start of the 21st century.
This species is threatened by illegal hunting and agricultural development due to population growth in Africa. The Giraffe Conservation Foundation, with the support of Beauval Nature, works to develop monitoring programmes that are provided by government organisations.
The programme aims to study giraffes in their natural environment by fitting them with radio collars in order to study their movement, social interactions, and ecology.
Do your part for conservation!
Sponsor an animal!
Becoming an animal sponsor allows you to form a strong relationship with your favourite animal whilst financing the conservation programmes supported by the Beauval Nature association. All money paid is allocated in full to the association and is then invested into one of the many species conservation programmes it supports around the world.
