The ZooParc de Beauval’s tropical greenhouses: a window to the world!
The park has 5 fully enclosed tropical greenhouses, which are home to hundreds of species. Perfect for rainy days! You can shelter inside as a shower passes over or to wait out some drizzle… whilst protected from the elements, make sure to discover all the animals. The greenhouses are themed according to continent or family. In each of them, you’ll be immersed in a recreated world that will take you to Australia, Asia, and Africa. Once the rain is over, you will be dry and warm: the greenhouses are kept at between 25 and 30 C all year round. Beauval can be visited in all weather conditions, as long as you don’t mind working with both rain and sun… after all, the sun comes after the rain, right?!
The Bird Tropical Greenhouse: let yourself be carried away by birdsong
At the entrance of the park, your visit will start
with the oldest greenhouse in Beauval, the Bird Tropical Greenhouse. This
greenhouse is home to hundreds of multicoloured birds including some with
enchanting names: rhinoceros hornbills, Victoria crowned pigeons, roul-rouls…! Keep an ear out for the songs, chirps, and melodies that will
entrance you as soon as you enter this area! And don’t be taken aback by all
the birds that live free, pecking at the little feeders, providing a superb
opportunity to marvel at them up close. They’re not shy! In addition to the
birds, you’ll also see a pair of sloths! Look carefully for them: they’re
probably asleep in their tree.
The Orangutan Greenhouse: marvel at these great apes up close
Next, your journey will take you to the Chimpanzee and Orangutan Tropical Greenhouse, a vast space where these two great ape species live alongside 'mini’ primates such as white-faced sakis and emperor tamarins. Created in 1993, this greenhouse is kept at 20 C all year round. The mist generators provide the level of humidity that is required by the animals housed here. You will be astounded by the different ambience that exists in the different enclosures. The chimpanzees are continually active, swinging around on the apparatus, bickering, screaming, moving to and from their outdoor island… they are truly boisterous, whereas the orangutans are much calmer and more placid. For several months now, a newborn has been a source of fascination for all our visitors. The youngster is thriving, growing quickly as it clings to its mother. As luck would have it Manis, her mother, makes a new nest every day with wood wool and paper in front of the windows. It’s perfect for seeing them up close. The orangutan lodge looks like it was inspired by The Jungle Book: baobab trees, lianas, the remains of a temple… the Indonesian jungle before your very eyes! Continue on your way, winding between the large banana leaves and other exotic plants to discover the small primates’ lodges. Playful, dynamic, and elusive, they’re always on the move!
The Gorilla Greenhouse: observe the daily life of this large family
Continue your visit by discovering the Gorilla Greenhouse, which is full of surprises! You’ll be amazed by the huge lodge where Asato and his numerous descendants live. It’s the perfect place to house these magnificent apes who, despite their build, are very peaceful. Platforms, ladders, lianas, hammocks… keep your eyes peeled for the youngsters, the females, and the adult gorillas! Next, time for a change of scenery! Cross the footbridges to overlook the stream and the pools filled with multicoloured fish, dwarf crocodiles, turtles, and stingrays that swim just above the sand… it’s a remarkable sight! Round off your visit of this greenhouse with the vivarium. Hold on tight: there are plenty more surprises in store! Look out for the incredibly colourful snakes and poison dart frogs. Petroleum blue, yellow and black, black… these jumpy little frogs are fascinating!
Discover the koalas in the Australian Greenhouse
Head up the steps in the direction of the giant pandas and then make a not-to-be-missed stop at the Australian Greenhouse to find yourself transported to Oceania. This indoor space is located opposite the Javan langurs. With its dry heat, sandy desert, and coral reef, this area is a concentrated version of the Australian continent. It’s a perfect mix of arid land and multicoloured seabed! On entering, you’ll be overwhelmed by the enveloping heat as you discover Goodfellow’s tree kangaroos and their young, before witnessing a hypnotic ballet of white-spotted jellyfish. Next, marvel at the ocean aquariums: corals, anemones, clownfish… the famous barrier reef reconstructed in all its glory! Afterwards, a relaxing break in front of the koalas is a must! Whether they’re fast asleep or feeding on eucalyptus, these marsupials will leave you spellbound. A visit to this sublime greenhouse, which blends the ochres of the deserts with the blues of the South Seas, ends with the splendid Fiji banded iguanas, with their green-tinted bodies and piercing eyes! The Australian Greenhouse is a relaxing haven. On your way out, stop in front of the coral nursery located just outside: a genuine laboratory where dozens of species of these fascinating living creatures are raised!
The Equatorial Dome: a tropical immersion
Visiting the other 4 greenhouses doesn’t mean you should skip the Equatorial Dome, a monumental half-sphere that’s home to more than 200 tropical species! With a surface area of one hectare and a height of 38 m, this 'king of all greenhouses’ is home to fascinating species in a majestic, lush setting. Just push open the door to enter the Dome through the cave and you’ll find yourself in a warm, colourful world full of calls and vocalisations. At every step, you’ll discover a whole host of surprises as you wander around the pools, pathways, and aviaries, finding Caribbean manatees, tamanduas, giant otters, squirrel monkeys, giant tortoises, red ibises, Rodrigues flying foxes… the diversity of animals living at the heart of this haven of exotic plants is truly extraordinary! Exploring the Equatorial Dome is like being transported to where the two hemispheres meet, in an environment maintained at 26 C all year round!
At the ZooParc de Beauval, there are no unpleasant surprises: everything is included in the entry ticket price. Some activities have an extra charge, but you are made aware! There is no additional charge for shows, educational activities, the 'Nuage de Beauval’ cable car ride over the park, or the visit to the Equatorial Dome. It’s all inclusive!
